Alliance will work with Legislature to expand KanCare
A response to Governor Brownback’s 2017 State of the State address from David Jordan, Executive Director of the Alliance for a Healthy Kansas:
“Tonight the Governor once again failed to endorse the expansion of KanCare in his State of the State address. He chose to ignore the needs of Kansans, whose lives would be remarkably improved with this one decision. At the Alliance for a Healthy Kansas, we are disappointed, but vow to work with the Legislature to expand this critical program. The benefits are threefold. First, expanding KanCare would provide needed access to health care coverage for 150,000 hardworking Kansans. Second, it would bring our own federal tax dollars back to the state, creating jobs, stimulating the economy, and helping to alleviate the self-inflicted budget crisis brought on by this Governor and previous Legislatures. Finally, expansion at this critical point allows the state to move closer to the head of the line if changes to the Affordable Care Act are implemented at the federal level. Rather than a win-win-win, our Governor has chosen politics over people. This is not acceptable for Kansans.”
